International Week of Deaf People 2026: Communication and Inclusion at @thepark, Cornwall

At @thepark, Bowden Derra Park, near Launceston in Cornwall, we believe everyone should have opportunities to communicate, express themselves and feel included.

During International Week of Deaf People, we celebrated the different ways people communicate, including keyword signing, which can help make communication more accessible for the people we support.

Our weekly Sing and Sign Choir brings residents and staff together through music and signing. The choir performs at local community events and schools, and we also deliver workshops to introduce others to signing and inclusive communication.

As a care home supporting adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, we recognise the importance of understanding individual communication needs and helping everyone have their voice heard.

International Week of Deaf People is an opportunity to celebrate sign languages, inclusion and the right to communicate.
