Bowden Derra Park offers access to many facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, an employment training and activity centre, beautiful gardens and woodlands.
An education and leisure centre is under construction, and our village shop and bistro style cafe/resturant are now open.
This building has been designed to provide a multi sensory experience. It is built within the gardens and is available to everyone living here allowing them maximum use of the valuable facility.
Some people have an assessed hydrotherapy programme designed by the specialist community physiotherapist, whilst others use it for other theraputic purposes..
THE Westgate Centre
An activity, training and employment centre
Accredited Manager: Jonathan Steed
The Westgate Centre is situated within the heart of the community of Launceston and enables direct access to the shops and facilities of the town centre.
The Centre welcomes
private and social care referrals.
The Centre offers a wide
range of activities and facilities. Following an individual person centred plan, a
variety of purposeful activities can be offered ranging from
promoting independence skills such as shopping and cooking, work experience and pre-employment training and also group social activities
such as bowling.
Bowden-Derra Park Gardens
Bowden-Derra Park has beautiful extensive gardens, incorporating a sensory trail. Large areas of
lawn offer good recreational space with summer activities including
trampolining, barbeques, outdoor social events, and occasional live music on
warm summer evenings. There are areas within the gardens which are used for
camping and sporting activities. Opportunities for gardening are provided
with raised beds, decorative borders and horticultural beds.
Following suggestions by people living here, we have opened a
small village shop for the benefit of the local community.
We are developing our horticultural facilities to
include allotments, greenhouses and polytunnels.
Our bistro style restaurant is now open and it is where people can meet friends for a meal or to chat over a coffee.
Work has already started on a recreation hall adjoining the hydrotherapy pool which will be used for indoor sports, leisure activities, education and social events.
All of these developments will provide enhanced opportunities for employment and social inclusion.
